Work of love for his mother’s village: Photographic tribute by Sotiris Skevis to "Karitsa of Parnonas"

A truly outstanding online album with some of the most iconic photographs ever taken in Karitsa and its outskirts may be viewed on the following link:  Afiéroma Sotíri Skévi stin «Karítsa tou Párnona»

Two hundred and sixty images all in all, very much veritable pieces of art, all taken by a descendant of Karitsa who truly loves the ancestral village but considers neighbouring Mari his home have been uploaded on our Facebook page.

Sotiris Skevis, the son of Christos Skevis of Mari and Stratigoula Katsampis of Karitsa, was born in Mari in the early 1950s but grew up in Athens

A retired mechanical engineer, Sotiris is married to Aikaterini Karampatsou, head of the Piraeus Court of First Instance, with whom he has three daughters.

Sotiris enjoys mountain climbing and trekking over the mountainous terrain in our parts of the world with which he shares a special bond. "My heart", he divulges, "beats on the rocks above the Parnon villages". Most of all, Sotiris delights in capturing with his camera lens the splendour before him; the beauty of the natural and built environment from grand landscapes, towering mountains, humble shepherd huts, quaint village houses, and even intimate details of sprouting flora.

All photos demonstrate his love and connection with his ancestral village and the essence of the world around us.

Whilst at first the album was designed to feature 200 images, as time went on more gems from Sotiris were added.  As he notes in the last image uploaded: “The end, for now… of a very beautiful long walk through my mother's village. Of course, I shall return with added energy and even more and better pen pictures.”

Take your time and peruse them one by one, it is well worth the effort.

A special plea… While a picture on its own is indeed worth a thousand words, captions are also important in presenting details not evident in the photos.  Readers are encouraged to add details, including names of localities, owners of huts, fields, and houses as well as any background information they deem interesting.
