"Our pilgrimage proved how strong our bonds are and how much it's worth keeping our traditions alive!"
Yesterday, eight fellow villagers experienced a unique journey through time, deciding to relive the magic of the past. The group, led by barmpa-Dimitrakis Katsabis from Australia, raised high the flag of tradition and solidarity.
Their goal was both simple and challenging, physically and mentally demanding: to recreate the pilgrimage of the Dekapentavgoustos, just as our ancestors practised for centuries, walking on foot from the village to Elona. They followed the old path from Karitsa to Kosmas and then on to Elona. This was an endeavour that our village hadn't attempted in a long time.
The group included the everyday heroine, Konstantina Hagiá, Manolis Malavazos who always brings a smile, the newlywed couple, Leonidas Malavazos with his beloved Sarantia Kolovou radiating warmth, young Anastasia Chantzi, who brightens hearts with her positive energy, the dynamic Despina Tsolomiti, and the bright light of the group, Giorgos Tsolomitis, who followed with passion and devotion.
Starting the journey from Karitsa around 4:00 in the afternoon, they followed in the footsteps of our ancestors on the old path towards Kosmas. They passed Diaselo, descended to Sourbanou, faced the steep ascent to Mazaraki, and enjoyed the beauty all around Lampraiiki Sterna.
Their journey continued towards the Monument of the Fallen, where they followed the public road leading to Kosmas. After continuously walking for 11 hours, they reached their destination at 3:00 in the morning, the Elona Monastery. It was a journey full of challenges, but the sense of accomplishment they felt, not only individually but as a united group, made them feel like they had discovered something precious.
This walk was not just a hike; it was an experience that strengthened their bonds and made them proud of our heritage and our village. Despite the long and arduous road, the devotion, friendship, and solidarity they experienced along the way made them feel like they were living a blessed adventure.
Upon returning to Karitsa, though physically fatigued, the feeling of satisfaction was evident in the group of eight. As one, they were eager to wish everyone a happy Dekapentavgoustos and many years of good health to all fellow villagers!
