Why are works being delayed and the road not fixed?
Believe it or not, it is said that the required funds have been set aside since two years ago, yet the road remains in a sad state of disrepair.
Despite repeated assurances to the contrary by local powers-to-be, the saga of the damaged road leading to Karitsa is expected to continue into the foreseeable future.
Two years have passed since the once-in-a-lifetime floods in September 2016 caused severe damage to the road in three places. This unfortunately made it a more challenging task to drive into the village.
Soon afterwards, officials promised locals that funds had actually been set aside and that the required repairs would take place within two or three months.
Yet, it took the council roadwork machinery 13 months to arrive, and then only as a temporary measure lay loose gravel over the three damaged sections.
Now, 25 months later, it must be said the road continues to be challenging, especially for drivers who are not familiar with local conditions.
Asphalt overlay over the three most treacherous sections is now a matter of urgency.
Enough is enough!
